Our Ambassador Animals

Our wolfdogs and foxes all come from captive bred lines, most of whom have siblings or other family members that also do ambassador work.
To learn the important role of ambassador animals please check out our page here for more information.

Lucian
Lucian is the founding ambassador animal for Ironwood. We adopted him from a lovely rescue in Texas who knew his potential as an ambassador for wolves. His personality is very dynamic; he can be serious, focused and reserved, but other times he is playful, dramatic and silly. Without Lucian, our program would not be what it is today. He is probably our most recognizable animal in our program, since for a while he was our only working ambassador.

As our longest working animal, he has entered semi-retirement, only working on concepts shot by Rachel and attending occasional educational programs.

Logan
Logan comes from a line of very social animals. He is known for being so relaxed at lectures that he falls asleep once the lights go low! This always surprises attendees at events, as most expect wolves to be defensive and aggressive. Logan is very affectionate, and often makes us laugh with his dramatic attitude. He likes to cuddle up to anyone that he meets and often sits in people's laps.

He is wonderful with people of all ages and is always excited to make new friends. Although he has grown more reserved as he's aged, he will never pass up on attention!

Luther
Luther is Logan's cousin. After seeing how great of an ambassador Logan has become for our program, we decided that we couldn't pass up a close relative. Luther has been a star from the start, and truly loves his job. Traveling is his favorite thing, he often goes to work with us in West Virginia and Kentucky. Luther's drive for work is amazing; we give each of our ambassadors days 'off' from work, and he still tries to get us to take him out on those days.

Luther is very easy going. His size and coloring are very striking, so he makes a big impact not only at educational programs, but for photo work as well.

Emma
Emma is our newest addition; a working partner and companion for Luther.
We are very excited to finally add an arctic wolf ambassador to the program!

So far, Emma has been an easy puppy. She has such a sweet demeanor and loves meeting new people while holding her stuffed animal toys in her mouth. We expect amazing things from her in her career as an ambassador for her species.

Vincent
Vincent was the first fox ambassador we acquired. He came from a private breeder that produces gentle, social animals. Vincent is a 'cross phased' Red Fox (Vulpes vulpes). Although our focus is and will always be wolves, we have a love for all wild canids. In the last few years, we have received countless requests for animal programs featuring native Ohio species; so we have decided to add foxes to our program. Vincent will help us teach locals about our native wild canid species and why wolves are no longer present in populated regions.

He is very calm and polite; we affectionately call him 'Sir Vincent'.

Ena
Ena is a traditional red phased Red Fox. We had been looking for a red colored kit for a few years, and Ena is the perfect fit for our program. Most of our animals have come from private ambassador animal breeding programs, but Ena's story is a bit different. We adopted her from a rescue who saves foxes from fur farms; generations of her family before her have been killed for their fur.

We know that Ena will help us not only teach about her species but to maybe also educate on the plight of fur farm animals. Hopefully when people meet her they think twice about buying fur coats.

At Ironwood Wolves, our Ambassador Wolves are wolfdogs of varying wolf content.
*we are not a sanctuary, rescue, or breeder.

Oblio (Obi)

Obi was our melanistic (black) Red Fox, which is also known as 'silver'. Obi was born in captivity but was relinquished to a wildlife rehabber after his original owner could no longer care for him.  Since he was not from the wild, he could not be rehabbed and released. Obi had a very high drive for work and loved going places with us. In his career as an ambassador animal, Obi not only touched the hearts of many people, but was also featured in countless fine art photo shoots, illustrations, and paintings. He will be dearly missed.

Cana

Cana was an amazing asset to our program; a true matriarch. We affectionately called her 'The Queen of Ironwood', a title that will always be hers. Cana's outgoing and gentle nature helped us educate about how caring and affectionate wolves are. She truly loved her job and it was an honor for us to give her a life doing something that she was born to do! Cana came from a working ambassador animal line in Canada, with many of her siblings and relatives doing ambassador work all over the world. It is hard to put into words exactly how perfect she was, and there will always feel like something is missing with her gone. Cana attended educational events, meet and greets, visited nursing homes, and people in hospice. She affected countless lives and changed so many people's opinions on her species. There will never be another like her.
